Re: What modern activity did you get up to today?

Can I add "everything Samsung is doing" to the list? Everything Samsung does is anti-consumer, so I don't know how I forgot them. On that subject, I'm looking at new phones to finally replace my Galaxy S7, and I'm worried that the Android automatic backup is keeping a list of installed apps to …

I got the full-screen Windows 10 EOL message again, but with the text and buttons properly scaled this time (the Windows 11 desktop screenshot on the right was still blurry). I'm totally disgusted by consumer products now, but I also get the strange feeling that the general public is becoming more …

Re: How important is screen resolution to you?

136(6)x768 is that nice resolution that you get with those older LCD TVs with VGA input. Why do you do not like it? When laptops switched from 16:10 aspect ratio displays to 16:9, 1366x768 became the only resolution choice on every laptop smaller than 17" except expensive workstation models. The …

If you're specifically talking about modern stuff, I consider 1920x1080 to be the minimum, and I prefer either higher resolutions or a different aspect ratio to get more vertical height. For older stuff, I use whatever the hardware can handle reasonably well as long as it isn't 1366x768.

Re: Worst fastest early 3D cards

I have one motherboard with a VIA KN133 chipset (S3 TwisterK, which is some kind of ProSavage variant). Its drivers don't support the Metal API, but they might support S3TC (I don't remember if I tried it). They won't perform as well as a discrete Savage card because they're sharing RAM with the CPU …

Windows replaced my graphics driver with a broken one again, so I found another method to prevent Windows Update from installing driver updates (although it's a massive downgrade, even if you only look at the release date and not the bugs). The problem with the severe lack of information about …

I loaded Linux Mint onto a flash drive, and I've been running the live version for most of the day. I still think it's stupid that Linux needs hacks to turn Num Lock on at boot (Lubuntu 22.04 has the option in its settings, but the other distros I've tried didn't), but I guess someone had a reason …

Wow I can't believe that MS really changed your background to tell you, in a sloppy way, that win10 will be simply unsupported a year later. I really can't, I'd do some more checks and googling to verify that this is legit. https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/microsoft-begins- …
