If you very carefully pry the edges of the socket's top cover (using something like a very small flat screwdriver), you can lift it off. I've done this on both Socket 478 and Socket 370 boards.

My only thought would be "Welcome to the world of PCChips!" Also, carefully inspect the RAM slots for any bent or damaged (oxidation?) contacts. No fan of PC Chips, but trying to use a PC133 256MB RAM DIMM in an early So7 SDRAM board is asking for it, even if you take a high-end Asus or MSI board. …

I "Baked" a card I didn't care about, and it did make it work again, but only for a relatively short amount of time; it cured the symptom rather than the underlying problem. And that seems (from what I've read) to be the best case scenario outcome, a temporary fix at best.

I've a PNY GeForce 3 Ti200 and I just installed one of the Chinese Zalman cooler knockoffs on it. As they are a "Universal" fit, some of the mounting points interfered with the RAM heat sinks so I had to use a hack saw and a file to trim the unnecessary mounting points to make it fit.

I installed a Chinese card cooler on my GeForce 3 Ti 200. I had to hacksaw and file portions of the base to make it clear the RAM sinks, and when I tried to install it I discovered that the short fins were preventing me from fully inserting it into the AGP slot so I had to bend some of them in.
